Short history of

Temple of Trajan

The temple was built, starting in 121 AD, by Hadrian and dedicated to his predecessor Trajan and his wife Plotina.

It was located behind the portico which closed the grandiose Forum of Trajan on the east side. The aspect of the monument is known from representations on coins and it is generally thought to have been octostyle, with Corinthian columns.

On the inside, situated in the apse, was the statue of the deity.
